With three sales confirmed and more likely in January, David Stansbury of Just Shutters Kent really has hit the ground running. “I’m surprised at just how well it’s going, because I only started the business a few weeks ago,” he confessed. “I was down in Bournemouth in late October receiving training and I got my first enquiry, before I’d started my business. That led to my first ‘measure’, which soon became my first job.”
As David explained, the couple had been considering plantation shutters for a while, but weren’t impressed by the salespeople who visited them to provide quotes. “I went in and was just totally honest,” David continued. “As well as being able to supply a superb product, I think they liked my approach – professional, yet warm and friendly. They wanted to know a lot of detail about the product, which I was able to give them, thanks to the training I received from Chris Rocker, the founder of Just Shutters.”
“I wasn’t expecting to make any sales until the New Year, what with it being so near Christmas when I started the business. Winning such a big order was a very unexpected and welcome bonus; it really has given me a dream start. I still have a lot to learn, and I’m not getting carried away, but it was a really nice way to kick things off.”
Chris and two fitters journeyed up from Bournemouth to give David a hand with his first fit. He added: “Because it was such a big job I was glad of the help, because we wanted to get everything done in one day, which is better for the customer.”
David met up with the other Just Shutters franchise owners at the Ideal Home Exhibition in November, as well as at the Just Shutters Christmas party a few weeks later. “Everyone seems very optimistic and I’m really looking forward to next year. Plantation shutters are becoming much more popular – curtains and blinds are on the way out. And Just Shutters is such an appealing brand, so I’m hopeful that things really will take off in 2013.”
David says he is glad he invested in his Just Shutters franchise. “I’m making sales and have a much better working life. Previously, I worked in maintenance and engineering for 30 years. More recently, I was getting up at 5am every weekday morning and not getting home until 7pm, while having to work on Saturday mornings. Things are much better now,” he smiled.
“It was for a couple in Canterbury. I thought it would just be for two of their windows, but it turned out they wanted the whole front of their house fitting. It’s a fantastic first order to win – I’m delighted.”
